History of the Democratic Party Essay The Democratic Party is one of the two major political parties in the United States. When this party makes political decisions, the Democratic Party followed a very liberal viewpoint. The Democratic Party is one of the oldest official political parties in the world and it is the oldest official political party in the United States. In 1792, Thomas Jefferson started the Democratic Party to oppose the Federalist Party to fight for the Bill of Rights. The Democratic Party was called the party of the common man. It was probably called this because it supported the normal citizens, like farmers and middle class people. Thomas Jefferson was elected as the first president from the Democratic Party in 1800. Jefferson served as president for two terms for the Democratic Party. Following this, in 1848, the Democratic National Committee was formed by the National Convention. The Democratic National Committee exists, making it the longest standing political organization ever. The Democratic Party is recognized with serving the lower and middle classes by funding government programs such as Welfare and free or low cost medical insurance. This is an opposite belief of the Republican Party who believes in that no one should face a tax increase, especially the rich. Democratic parties typically rule large states such as New York and California. Since these are two states with a high number of electoral votes, the Democratic Party has an advantage in presidential elections, although despite that support, there have still been many Republican presidents voted into office.

We are making this report as we have to purchase and implement an ERP system into our organization. As we have to choose and use any one of these two in our organization. So first we will discuss about what an ERP system is, what its components are and why it is so much of importance now days. Then we will discuss about the two most dominant ERP vendors SAP and Oracle and differentiate between them on the basis of some points like cost, which one is better to use, functions, applications, technology platforms etc and finally we will give conclusion about the comparison done and evaluate that which one is better and which one is to be implemented in the organization. Introduction Of The Report- Enterprise resource planning (ERP) what does this mean, in a short and simple way and by the name we can define it as planning done in an enterprise to manage the resources. ERP is a part of Enterprise management system (EMS). EMS is defined as a system which manages an enterprise by the use of various resources available to run a business. It has various components and ERP is one of the components. In EMS, ERP system plays an important role as the major decisions are taken through it. ERP system deals with the planning and use of resources in the business. The resources are finance, material, manufacturing, capacity and human resources. The ERP provides, the methodology of accessing the resources need for a given business plan to achieve certain business objectives. It also helps to execute the plans, decisions and actions in the time bound manner. The ERP provides a support system in transaction process, updating and reporting various functions. The ERP is the main interface of the organization. The implementation of most of the ERP packages begins with the definition of enterprise structure, authorities, functions, business process and business plans. The ERP solutions are available in unique platform and also in windows NT. The typical ERP package consists of the following modules- (Wailgum, 2011) Sales, marketing and distribution. Manufacturing. Inventory management. Personnel management. Finance management. Purchase. Planning. Control. There are six system which together act as the support systems to the ERP, they are- Communication management system (CMS). Security management system (SMS). Electronic data interchange (EDI). Comparison Between SAP and Oracle As already discussed above that currently SAP and Oracle are the two most dominant ERP vendors in the market, so to select any one of them we have to do a detailed study about each of them and compare the two on the basis of some characteristics and finally evaluate that which one is best suited for our organization and implemented in it. We will analyze each of the products on the basis of business functions, technology platforms, cost, and ease of use. General functions and applicability- SAP is doing its business longer than oracle as SAP was started long before and oracle is new in the market in comparison to SAP. In my view, erect industry-specific functionality is where the rubber hits the path as the hope of enterprise applications unfolds. The ability of an ERP package is to know and take the services of the individuals and to build them according to their requirement into an application which is essentially customized according to the customer, for the individual business in the organization of that individual. This states that although a strong service infrastructure is needed, the vendors also need a large range of services with them to accumulate the further the merrier. SAP takes advantage here as it has skill in 28 verticals and has the software functionality to prove. To make available all the functions as usable for future is one of the task of SAP and if it is done than it will built more customers and can have a bright future. On the other side oracle provides functions that are deep vertical and have a partnering strategy, but this functionality is far behind the SAP functionality. So now oracle is trying to fill the blanks by having more partner products but still it is known that what the products will do and what are their applications we can say that SAP is at the advantage of the two. (SAP vs Oracle) Technology- Oracles applications are flexible and also configuration is possible, therefore its technology mound for its applications. Although the best of the solutions were there in the market but still oracle was able to embrace in the middleware market early on as company had strong middleware products. Also the oracle organization was working to simplify and to open its application architecture. Oracle provided a product which was easy to install and maintain for the customer which was its benefit. Also oracle is creating a unified data model. On the other hand SAP has five different data models for the customers to work on. If any organization wants a single source with SAP then it has to build a data ware house. But oracle makes data warehouse optional for its customers which result in faster access to information. Cost- Total cost of ownership (TCO) comprises of technology, extensibility and implementation and ROI. Now the question is which is better, SAP or Oracle? As Oracles applications are extensible and flexible it lightens the want for customization. Due to customization deployments which are coming faster, and also due to lower consulting costs of the internal resources the business operations are becoming quicker. The effect of all these attributes results in a lower cost of ownership which everyone wants. As all these attributes are present in the Oracle technology so its cost is lower than SAP and not only the cost is lower but the average three year total cost of ownership of Oracle is 48% less than SAPs, which is a huge difference in the cost of the two. Ease of use- As we know that the ERP system cant satisfy all the customers, but due to flexibility of the applications of oracle it has attracted many customers and organizations towards it. Oracle also rises and has benefit in several areas like extensibility- web applications, workflow and reporting. The web applications of Oracle are so flexible that the companys IT department can personalize the web application. For an example a web application named iProcurement can be used in such a way that someone logging from any part may get the proper information which is suitable for them. One more example of Oracles web application is iExpense. With the help of this application many organization used it to modernize their business processes related to employee expenditure and reimbursements. Also iExpense is an application which is simpler and easier to work than any SAP application. Evaluation and Conclusion- Here we will discuss that which is the better product of the two, some thinks that SAP is better but on the other hand many support Oracle. Both SAP and Oracle have some positive as well as negative points, so by evaluating the two we will finally conclude our report on the basis of some points- Which vendor to select- According to me Oracle is better than SAP, so one should select Oracle for the organization, as by studying the comparison above we can easily evaluate that oracle out beats SAP in all most all the fields. We discussed many characteristic of the two and finally we can say that Oracle is the better of the two and we should select Oracle to implement in our organization. Why to select Oracle, on what basis- Now as we have concluded that Oracle is better than SAP, so how we reached to this conclusion, what were the reasons. Some of the reasons are that Oracle applications are easy to use and can be deployed successfully in short time frame. As discussed many times its application are highly flexible and configurable. SAP basically is an closed circuit and it is too massive to handle, on the other hand Oracle solution are user friendly and also programmer friendly and also it is open and offers all the interfaces to many application, so it is at benefit in comparison with SAP. Also one of the main reasons is that the total cost of ownership (TCO) of Oracle is less than SAP and also working on Oracle applications is easier than working on SAP applications. The positive point for Oracle is that its implementation has taken less time and also at a lower cost. Oracle was established in 2004 and since 2004 it has occupied over 30 other companies as a part of its strategy. Also when customer re view was taken then also the result was positive for Oracle and customer were satisfied with Oracle then SAP. Also the profit during the past year has increased 33% for SAP which is far less than Oracle which is 47%. So we have seen both and finally we can say that Oracle have a better offering for its customer. Whether it is a small or large organization or it may be manufacturing industry or a service industry their working and aim is almost same. Everyone wants to have more profit, attract more customers, reduce its cost, want to satisfy the customer, and want to have easier work. These are the basic objectives of any firm or organization only they may differ in some extent but not much difference exists between them. SAP and Oracle applications are made in such a way that they are suitable for almost all the industries so size and domain doesnt matter in selecting the ERP package only the concern is taken on quality, cost, ease of use etc. We should choose a full ERP installation or we should pursue customizations from the vendor- According to it, if one has to select an ERP package one should opt for customization from the vendors rather than installation of the full ERP package. The reason for this is that if we go for a full ERP installation then we have to accept what that ERP package gives and offers us. It may have many things which we dont want or it might miss something which is required by us. Also we have to use it according to its manufacturer as he has designed it according to him and keeping the entire set of customers in mind. As the package is not made for an individual but for all the customers who can buy it so it will have the features and applications according to the common use of people and not according to the specific use. But if we opt for customization from the vendors, than we have lots of benefit. As it is made according to the individuals choice, so one can make changes in it. He can add and delete application according to his use. It is made according to his specification and accor ding to the need of the organization. Also its working is set according to what an organization want. So we can easily analyze hare that which one is better and we can say that customization from vendors is better than full ERP installation and the reasons for this we have already given above.

Five Hundred Days Of Summer Analysis Film Studies Essay (500) Days of Summer (2009) is a creative approach to the romantic comedy genre. An unidentified male narrator  warns us early on that This is a story of boy meets girl. This is not a love story. The film is a story about love while it may or may not end the way we expect, its a more real, complicated, and a believable love story then any number of romantic comedies that we been exposed to.   Most movies usually tell us that true love is possible with whomever we choose if only we want it enough. Hollywood likes to distort reality and put most romantic entanglements into a happy ending with a cute bow on it, this movie brings us back to the reality. The film deceives the viewers to believe that the narrative will be from both protagonists perspectives: Tom and Summer.   In fact, it is told through its main protagonist Toms (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) perspective. The boy, Tom Hansen of Margate, New Jersey grew up believing that hed never truly be happy until the day he met the one. His belief originated from early exposure to sad British pop music and a total misinterpretation of the movie The Graduate. The girl, Summer Finn (Zooey Deschanel) of Shinnecock, Michigan did not share this belief since the collapse of her parents marriage. In referring to the main title the five hundred days is about how long Toms life is spent with a girl named Summer. This movie doesnt play out chronologically, but instead  jumps back and forth through time using flash back (Giannetti Leach 2008, p.48). In depicting the relationships struggles faced by Tom , (500) Days of Summer addresses the main theme dealing with those small but significant moments between two people and taking a risk at love when uncertainty remains. Moments that can make someone wonder if the other person was feeling the same thing or if it was only an illusion. This is a different kind of love story but, not told in a conventional way about how our romantic preconceptions can cloud relationships and tryi ng to understand the truth and nature of love. This film is a work of fiction. It has a formalist narrative structure told out of chronological order and relies on flash backs plus flash forwards with creativity in nearly every scene.   The Director frequently plays around with ideas from the visual to the aural.   The movie at beginning uses a split screen look at the main characters childhood growth before they cross paths somewhere in time in the future at a greeting card company. The use of narration made you want to see the two main characters live happily ever after. The film starts on day (290) with urgency using non-diegetic (Giannetti Leach 2008, p.212) music through cinematic images and sequences of a girl riding on a bike through the dark streets of LA arriving at a gated apartment to a visually heartbroken, plate smashing Tom. Tom retells his sister (Rachel) and friends about what has gone awry with his relationship with Summer. The clichà ©s of the younger know it all smart sister, giving him vodka to loosen up in order to open up and retell his story about Summer works. He starts from his recollection of the beginning and what happened. A montage of happy moments between Summer and Tom laughing, kissing, holding hands, hugging and buying music together. Summer suggests they should stop seeing each other in a diner setting which is a clichà © moment and this scene visually reminded me of when Harry met Sally. The mise en scene of his apartment reflects an educated, middle class, cultured person who enjoys reading and music. Another clichà © moment is reference to Sid and Nancy Sid Vicious stabbed Nancy seven times with a kitchen knife. They have some disagreements but he hardly thinks he is Sid Vicious. She replies No. Im Sid. Summer says the words that is death to all guys Youre still my best friend! We visually see Tom moving in slow motion after Summer says the word friend It is like the bottom drops out emotionally for Tom. This movie is filled with more clichà ©s like theres plent y of other fish in the sea or a recurring theme in many romances I dont want to get over her. I want to get her back. The unseen narrator states There are only two kinds of people in the world. There are women and there are men. He is reminding us of the differences between the genders. There are black and white images of a scene of shots or descriptive play by play on Summer Finn. The director tells the story using his stylistic choices and including gimmicks from sketchbook-like transitions to an impromptu dance number and the Bergman inspired black and white film montage. A significant visual scene is shown, after Tom has sex for the first time with Summer. This scene represents his feelings of being in love, people smiling, life is wonderful, Tom checks out his reflection in a car window at the peak of his happiness and sees Hans Solo wink at him. The scene continues with the fountain exploding while the music is diegetic, the song by Hall Oates ballad You Make My Dreams Come True is heard and ending with a dance number reminiscent of Ferris Buellers day off. The music selections are inspiring, reflective and the slow motion bits add to the nostalgic mood. The pure range of ideas keeps audiences not only eagerly interested in what is to come next but for the most part benefits the plotline.   The creative vision gives the ordinary story a life of its own with very real feelings. Many viewers, who have experienced an important relationship, will be surprised in at least one unique way the film tackles its themes. (500) Days of Summer left a uplifting message about putting yourself out there and taking the risks and the hardships that go with them is the only way to find happiness. A defining moment scene in (500) Days of Summer occurs day (259) when Tom defends his relationship with Summer at a bar and hits the stranger. Tom and Summer (alternating close-up shots between two characters) come back to her apartment where they break-up, the scene ends with a high angle shot of Tom running down a spiraling staircase. His life seems to be spiraling out of control. Summer eventually comes back to him. We see homage to Annie Hall in an art gallery. There is a black and white neo-realist or film noir of suffering in the shot of Tom consoling himself at a movie theatre. Day (154) The officially in love with Summer scene in extreme close-ups of Summers body parts hearing shes like the wind by Patrick Swayze and the contrary scene I hate Summer, same shots as the love ones but dialogue is expresses the distaste for everything he liked about her teeth, smile, hair style, knees and her birth mark, not to mention he now hates the song shes like the wind by Patrick Swayze. The greatest use of imagery or editing is the split screen shot of expectations and reality a fantastic use of parallel editing (Giannetti Leach 2008, p.186) plus the non-diegetic sound he runs down the spiraling staircase from high angle to low angle shot into the streets with a sketch drawing of his world fading away and he is standing alone. Day (450) Toms sister says she is not the one, your just remembering the good stuff next time you look back at the relationship you should give it a better look. Tom is inspired to move forward after the end of his relationship with Summer and starts drawing again. We see close-up sketching of linear buildings drawn on a blackboard in his apartment, next a sketch pad and jarring movements in fast motion. There are a lot of fast pace, movement scenes of the world around him. Next, we switch to a parallel/split screen scene with Tom on a bus expressionless and the other parallel screen of Summer smiling in the process of getting married. Anothe r important scene is where Tom has closure with Summer at his favourite park bench scene, this is a medium two shot. Summer reveals she was never sure of love with Tom. Tom realizes love does not ever make sense. The final scene in (500) Days of Summer is completed by answering the question fate does exist and there is the one or soul mate out there and you will never know when it happens. The final scene first shows a shot from a birds eye view (Giannetti Leach 2008, p.72) inside a building with the narrator remarking most days of the year are unremarkable they begin and they end. Tom sits on a chair in personal proxemic pattern (Giannetti Leach 2008, p.126) from a female interviewing for the same job. They both reply to each other I hope you dont get the job in a medium shot. They then share a laugh. Tom appears to have a revelation coincidence or fate his pessimistic view is transformed upon meeting Autumn. Tom looks into the camera in a way to acknowledging us as an audience that he might be wrong and still believe in fate or the one. In conclusion, the energetic art style and architectural look at the scenery of Los Angeles adds to overall ambience of the environments and characters in each scene. The story telling is in one way conventional, about a boy meets girl love story. Tom (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) meets Summer (Zooey Deschanel), they fall in love, break up, maybe get back together, and then ends abruptly. The film is also unconventional in an indie sort of way. The storytelling is not chronological; there are unexpected camera angles, clever editing, split screens, variety of eclectic songs and combination of references throughout the film like The Graduate. Its a film that embraces love among the ruins of a modern society. (500) Days of Summer is about how our romantic preconceptions can alter our understanding of relationships and trying to understand the true nature of love is not something we can truly define. This is not a love story. This is a story about love.

Choosing a Career Path Essay -- building management

Never once was there a doubt in my mind that I wasn’t going to college. But the question as to what career path do I want to pursue was always the hard part. When declaring my major, I had no idea that Michigan State had so many different options. My original major was pre-law, and then it was general management, now I’m leaning towards construction management. I watched â€Å"A Family That Preys† by Tyler Perry, and one of the characters was a construction manager. Like a child, watching this movie persuaded my decision to go into this field. I didn’t declare this as my first major because I was uneducated on the field, so I went with a major that I knew about. I am only in my second semester of college and I have changed my major twice. My uncle has been very successful and he has greatly inspired my choice of continuing my education. He was a successful insurance agent at state farm, and then went on to owning his own insurance company. Even though he i s in the insurance field, he is going back to school for trucking and looking into construction as well. One night we sat at my grandmother’s dinning room table and discussed my future career plans. I told him that I was interested in construction management but I was uneducated in the field so I didn’t change my major yet. I need to educate myself about being in the construction field by reading books, interviews, magazines, etc. The name construction management in itself sounds like a hand full, there’s no question that pursuing this major will be a lot of hard work and dedication.
